A Biblical Perspective on Music
Preface The purpose of this book will be to show folks what exactly the King James Bible says about music. That's it - period!I have learned that I personally cannot convince people or even pastors...
- ...to change the music in their home.
- ...their music has gone after the flesh in their church.
- ...their only concerns about music is growing church attendance or family pleasure.
- ...what is good and bad music according to the Scriptures.
- ...the dangers that exist in KJB families and churches concerning 'good' music.
- ... music for young people is actually damaging their entire future.
- ...their 'favorite' music could adversely affect their judgment seat of Christ 'experience.'
- ...their music affects them physically, mentally and spiritually regardless of their awareness.
- ...about the deception of being treated like a barbarian because they don't understand the language of music.
But the Lord can!
I do realize that most folks know very little about the language of music - you know, those dots and the lines and flags on those dots in that hymn book, etc. That is very understandable given that most folks have not 'studied' the language of music. But what is more disturbing to me is that most folks know very little about what Christ Himself says about music!Even though there are a few preachers who preach on music... and even though there are more and more traveling families that love to sing about the Lord and believe in their heart that their music is clean... and even though Bible Believers are known for their great singing in church and at home, most Bible Believing Christians really have no idea what their Bible says about music!
They may know about rightly dividing and all the proper doctrinal matter - but most of them I have met have never even considered 'music' in their bible other than just singing praises and a few ditties about harps & tabrets with David in the desert!
"Most Christians know very little about what Christ says about music!"
Let's look at Ephesians 4:20,21But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: If you would be willing to take note of what the Bible says about music, the Lord will show you some things going on in your church, in your home and in your own personal life that would heighten your concern about music. The modern philosophy of following that inner feeling and desire "without the final authority of the Holy Scriptures" is either you following after your own flesh or the spirit of antichrist is speaking to you!
- That will happen only if you have searched the scriptures completely about music!
- That will happen ONLY if you have heard from Christ Himself about music!
- That will happen ONLY if you have been taught by Christ Himself about music!
- That will happen ONLY if you have read and learned from your King James Bible about music as Christ speaks directly to us through the King James Bible!
Really? Really! Do you believe that? Yes, I do!
Folks, if you have not heard and learned from Christ Himself through His words concerning music, then you have not so learned Christ, and thus you would be basing your own thoughts and conclusions on your own opinions.Read Ephesians 4:17-19 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Let's look back at verse 17 ...This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind...Consider the possibility that as the Scriptures warn, if you have not so learned your music from Christ, then you would be walking in the vanity of your mind. Would you agree that walking in the vanity of your mind regarding music would mean that you sing, play, listen & enjoy music that YOU liked and "felt good about" as it would be based on YOUR OWN opinion?
Unfortunately, I have found that any 'discussion' regarding music with most folks actually gets more heated than talking about the King James Bible these days. Bible Believing Christians are more and more like the world now in that they say they know what THEY LIKE about their music and they will state that it doesn't matter what the Holy Scriptures say! That statement is made because they DON'T KNOW what the Holy Scriptures say and they DON'T WANT TO KNOW! More and more Christians today walk in the vanity of their mind when it comes to music!
Putting it simply while applying verses 18,19, a result of a serious lack of preaching, teaching & studying on music, I see Bible Believers today that are...
- ...having their understanding darkened in relation to music!
- ...living a life alienated from the life of God when it comes to music!
- ...ignorant of the scriptures regarding music!
- ...blinded in their heart about music!
- ...are past feeling - in other words, they don't care anymore - they know what they like and they know what feels good so they figure God must like it, too, so they don't care what the preacher or even the Scriptures say!
- ...are giving themselves over unto lasciviousness (tendency to excite lust and promote irregular indulgences). They are giving into the lust of the flesh as they walk after the flesh concerning their music.
...all of which leads folks to a walk of all uncleanness with greediness.
I hope you will consider the information found in this book! Even though the comments in this book are mine, what the Holy Spirit gives you from your personal reading of the Scriptures along with prayer and quiet meditation over this material will be directly from Christ.I also have some other music sermons that will eventually be included within this book - remembering that God manifests His word through preaching as well as rightly dividing the word of truth through personal study.
Return to Page One I trust you will find this book a blessing in your research about music!
I especially hope that you are seeking to learn directly from Christ!
